Streaming Encoders

Configure and monitor your live broadcast stream

Create an encoder profile, use MP3 with Icecast or SHOUTcast v1/v2, or use Opus with Icecast. Learn how to connect each row, check its audio and status, and resolve common connection problems.

Icecast, SHOUTcast v1 and SHOUTcast v2 MP3 and Opus Per-Row Status and Meters

Understand the streaming panel

Each TeoCast stream row has its own server settings, format, bitrate, status and audio meter. Select a row before using Connect or Stop. Software Output sends the same Program Mix used by Main Output, including the current Audio Processor ACTIVE / BYPASS setting.

Name

A clear label that identifies the destination, such as Main Icecast, Backup Stream or SHOUTcast v1/v2 Server.

Format

Selects the encoded audio format sent to the streaming server.

Bitrate

Controls the stream data rate and affects audio quality and bandwidth usage.

Server

Identifies the server type and connection destination.

Mount / Stream ID

Icecast uses a mount point. SHOUTcast v2 uses a positive numeric Stream ID / SID. SHOUTcast v1 needs neither field.

Status and meters

Shows connection progress and visible left/right audio activity for the configured row.

The Software Output meter can remain visible even when no stream is connected. This helps confirm that TeoCast is producing audio before the encoder connection is tested.

Collect the server details first

Obtain the exact connection information from the streaming host before creating the encoder row.

  • Server type: Icecast, SHOUTcast v1 or SHOUTcast v2
  • Host name or server address
  • Source port
  • Source password
  • Icecast username, commonly source
  • Icecast mount point, or a positive numeric Stream ID / SID for SHOUTcast v2
  • Supported format, bitrate and sample rate: MP3 or Icecast-only Opus
  • For SHOUTcast v2, a server that accepts legacy source authentication
Do not publish server passwords in screenshots, public support posts or documentation. Treat streaming credentials as private.

Create and configure an encoder row

Add one stream destination at a time and test it before configuring another server.

1

Open the Stream panel

Use the Stream button in the lower TeoCast toolbar.

2

Add or edit an encoder profile

Click + Add, or double-click an existing row to edit it. Enter an Encoder Name and choose Software Output for TeoCast’s Program Mix, or External Mixer / Line Input for an external feed.

3

Select the server type

Choose Icecast, SHOUTcast v1 or SHOUTcast v2 according to the hosting provider.

4

Enter the connection details

Enter Server Address and Port, then the source password. Icecast also needs Username and Mount Point; SHOUTcast v2 needs a positive numeric Stream ID / SID.

5

Select format, bitrate and sample rate

MP3 supports 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz. Opus is Icecast-only and uses 48 kHz automatically. Match the bitrate to your hosting plan.

6

Click OK, then select the row

Click OK to save the profile and close the editor. Select its row in the Stream panel, then click Connect when ready. Saving the profile does not start the connection.

Choose the correct format and bitrate

Select a format that matches the server configuration and the devices used by your listeners.

MP3

Supported with Icecast, SHOUTcast v1 and compatible SHOUTcast v2 servers. Choose 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz for the encoded output and a bitrate accepted by your provider.

Opus

Supported with Icecast only, at a fixed 48 kHz sample rate. The sample-rate selector is locked to 48000 Hz. The server and listener player must support Opus.

TeoCast’s encoder formats are MP3 and Opus; AAC is not available. Higher bitrates use more upload bandwidth. Choose a setting your provider accepts and your connection can maintain continuously.

Configure an Icecast destination

Icecast requires Server Address, Port, Username, source Password and Mount Point. Use the exact source connection details from your host.

1

Select Icecast

Choose Icecast as the server type for the current row.

2

Enter host and port

Use the source connection address supplied by the streaming host.

3

Enter the username and source password

Enter the supplied Username, commonly source, and source Password. Use source credentials rather than listener or administration credentials.

4

Enter the mount point

Copy the mount exactly as supplied. Icecast mount points commonly begin with a forward slash.

Example: /radio.mp3
5

Match the server format

Confirm that the selected MP3 or Opus format is allowed for that mount.

The example mount is only a format example. Always use the exact mount supplied by your own streaming provider.

Configure a SHOUTcast v1 or v2 destination

Choose MP3 for either SHOUTcast version. TeoCast connects to SHOUTcast v2-compatible servers through legacy source authentication; confirm that your provider supports this connection method.

1

Select the correct SHOUTcast version

Match the version shown in the hosting control panel.

2

Enter the source host and port

Do not assume that the listener port and source port are always the same.

3

Enter the source password

Copy the source password exactly, including uppercase and lowercase characters.

4

Enter the Stream ID / SID for v2

SHOUTcast v2 requires a positive whole-number SID, often 1; use your provider’s value. Do not enter an Icecast mount or URL. SHOUTcast v1 needs only host, port and source password.

5

Confirm MP3 settings

Select MP3, 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz, and a supported bitrate. Opus cannot connect to SHOUTcast.

Connect and monitor the stream

Start playback first, confirm audio activity, then connect the configured stream row.

1

Start a known audio item

For Software Output, play music and confirm activity on its meter. If using External Mixer / Line Input, check that the selected external source is supplying audio.

2

Connect the selected row

Select the intended encoder row, click Connect once and allow the connection process to finish.

3

Check the row status

Watch the row progress from Connecting to Encoding. Encoding indicates an active connection; confirm listener audio separately.

4

Observe the row meter

Check that the left and right meter responds to the current audio.

5

Test through the public listener link

Open the station stream in a separate player or device and confirm that audio is audible.

6

Stop the selected stream when finished

Select the intended row and click Stop to disconnect it. Allow for listener delay while buffered audio finishes playing.

Encoding

The encoder row has established a server connection and is active.

Reconnecting

TeoCast is attempting to restore a lost connection.

Failed or Idle

Failed needs investigation. Idle means the row is stopped or has not connected; check the selected row before clicking Connect.

Audio movement on a meter confirms that audio is reaching that stage of TeoCast. A separate listener test is still required to confirm the complete server path.

Common streaming problems

Use these checks when a stream cannot connect or listeners cannot hear audio.

Authentication failed

Recheck the source password, username and SHOUTcast stream ID. Remove accidental spaces before or after copied values.

Mount or Stream ID rejected

Use the exact Icecast mount, or the positive numeric SHOUTcast v2 SID from the hosting panel. These fields are not interchangeable.

Connected but no listener audio

Confirm main playback, Software Output activity, row meter movement and the correct public listener link.

Repeated reconnecting

Check server availability, credentials, upload stability and whether the selected bitrate is sustainable.

Format not accepted

Use MP3 for SHOUTcast, or MP3 / Opus for Icecast. Opus is fixed at 48 kHz; MP3 supports 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz. Check the bitrate accepted by the provider.

High listener delay

Test another player and compare server buffering settings. Listener delay can vary by server and playback application.

Only one channel is active

Check the original source file, main output meter and audio-device configuration before reconnecting.

Icecast mount already in use

Check whether another encoder row or application is already connected to the same host, port and mount. Use the intended source connection or a different mount supplied by your provider.

When contacting support, include the server type, selected format, bitrate, exact status message and relevant TeoCast log entries. Remove passwords before sending screenshots or logs.

Continue with Troubleshooting

Review practical checks for playback, audio devices, licensing, Scheduler, Voice Tracking, streaming and application stability.
